Meet Kailey Snyder

Name: Kailey Snyder

Occupation: Assistant Professor in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions at Creighton University

Position on Leadership Team: Research & Evaluation Chair

How long have you been with the Leadership team? 2 years

How did you get interested in breastfeeding? I grew up with a pediatrician mom that happened to specialize in breastfeeding medicine. I had no interest in pursuing medicine and thought I was getting far away from following in my mother’s footsteps when I got my PhD instead.  However….I somehow ended up a maternal/child health researcher that works with breastfeeding mothers regularly. #thanksmom

What are your goals for the breastfeeding coalition? Breastfeeding is the ultimate gift a mother can give her child and so many mothers are unable to achieve their breastfeeding goals due to lack of resources or support. I want every woman to have the opportunity to access ACCURATE resources/support and get to experience the joys of breastfeeding. I also want women to be able to maintain mental and physical well-being while breastfeeding which is why I conduct research on engaging in healthy behaviors while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding your baby shouldn’t mean eating poorly and being sedentary but we lack the resources and education to help women support their own health while breastfeeding.

Do you have kids and if so, how many? I do! I have 2 kiddos, Isla who is 3 and Benson who is 4 months old.

Did you breastfeed your children? Yes! I’m really lucky that I’ve had great breastfeeding experiences (knock on wood) with both children. Benson is 4 months in and going strong. He and I are both very much enjoying this lack of pumping I’m having to do as the silver lining of the quarantine.
